Greek Award Descriptions & Applications

Undergraduate Awards
The Pillars. This award is presented to eight seniors who have made a significant impact upon the Greek community during their collegiate career. Through their involvement and leadership, they have become a "pillar" of the Rutgers Greek community. The following are the criteria by which candidates will be evaluated:

a. GPA of 3.0 or better
b. Impact upon his/her chapter
c. Impact upon the Greek community
d. Involvement in the university community
e. Character and values

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

The Pillars Nominee Application


Greek Awards of Distinction. This award has been established to recognize Greek men and women for their achievements and contributions to the Greek and campus community during the 2007/2008 academic year. No more than fifteen (15) students will receive this recognition annually. Nominees may be sophomores, juniors or seniors. The following criteria will be used in evaluating the credentials of the nominees:

a. GPA of 3.0 or better
b. Service to the University community
c. Service to the Greek community

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Greek Award of Distinction


Outstanding Greek Man/Outstanding Greek Woman.  This award is presented to the senior man and woman who have made a significant contribution to the RU Greek Community during the 2007-2008 academic year.

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Outstanding Chapter President. This award is presented to the fraternity and sorority chapter presidents who have distinguished themselves over the past year. The following criteria will be used in evaluating the credentials of the nominees:

a. GPA of 3.0 or better
b. Achievements while in office
c. Character and ideals

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Outstanding Chapter President Award Application


Outstanding New Member. This award is presented to the fraternity and sorority new members that have distinguished themselves during their first year of membership. Students that joined in Fall 07 and Spring 08 are eligible for this award. The criteria on which this award is based are as follows:

a. GPA of 3.0 or better
b. Academic achievement during the new member semester
c. Leadership in the new member class
d. Involvement in the Greek and/or university community

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Outstanding New Member Award Application


Outstanding Greek Scholar Award. This award has been established to recognize Greek men and women for their outstanding academic achievements. No more than five (5) students will receive this recognition annually. The following criteria will be used in evaluating the credentials of the nominee:

a. Academic achievement (awards, scholarships, honors)
b. Advanced academic study project (thesis, scholarly research, etc.)
c. Recommendation from supervising professor

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Outstanding Greek Scholar Award Application


Spirit of Service Award. This award has been established to recognize Greek men and women for their outstanding community service contributions. No more than five (5) students will receive this recognition annually. The nominees may be from your own chapter or from other chapters. There is no class rank requirement for this award. The following criteria will be used in evaluating the credentials of the nominees:

a. GPA of 3.0 or better
b. Length and quality of service activities
c. Letter of support

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Outstanding Spirit of Service Award Application


Dance Marathon Spirit of Service Award. This award has been established to recognize the chapter from each governing council that fully embraces the philosophical ideals of the Dance Marathon. The following criteria will be used to select the recipients of this award:

a. Participation in the Adopt-a-Family Program
b. Participation in DM sponsored events
c. Registered Dancers and Volunteers
d. Chapter education program about the Embrace Kids Foundation

To be considered: Candidates must submit the completed application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Outstanding Dance Marathon Spirit of Service Award Application


Outstanding Chapter Program/Event. This award has been established to recognize the chapters that have excelled in the planning and execution of a chapter program or event. The following criteria will be used in evaluating the nominated program/event:

a. Program/event goals
b. Program/event execution
c. Program/event evaluation

To be considered: Chapters must submit the compiled application by Monday, March 31, 2008.

Outstanding Chapter Program/Event Award Application


Outstanding Chapter Advisor. This award is meant to honor the fraternity and sorority chapter advisor(s) that provides service to his/her chapter, to individual members of the chapter and to the Greek community as a whole. Chapter advisors as well as members of the advisory board are eligible to be nominated for this award.

To be considered: Chapter must submit a written letter of nomination by Monday, March 31, 2008.


Faculty/Staff Award

This award is presented to an outstanding university administrator or faculty member. It is given to an individual who has contributed significant services to the Greek community and/or the member chapters. (Chapter advisors are not eligible). Chapters are encouraged to consider those members of the university staff or faculty that took time to provide assistance, present a program or help with a problem.

To be considered: Chapter must submit a written letter of nomination by Monday, March 31, 2008.
